o-wa tana siam

A tale I once heard. The older I get, this story seems more and more appropriate.

A young man, upset, bitter and depressed, went to visit an old Indian witch doctor for help.

The young man spent hours, complaining about everything. He was unhappy. He was not satisfied. He did not like the things he had. He wanted the things he didn't have. He failed because others got in his way. Nothing was right. Nothing was good. If only he could find someone to fix his problems.

The witch doctor offered a remedy, and told him "repeat these holy words every day for a week":

"o-wa tana siam"

The man did so, and returned a week later. "I did as you said, but things are not better. Now what?"

The witch doctor instructed him repeat the words, louder, and louder while walking through town.

"And then when you reach the center square, SHOUT the same chant again and again at the top of your lungs",

"O-WA TANA SIAM"

The young man followed the wise man's instructions.

Until he realized he as actually shouting, "OH WHAT AN ASS I AM"

And at that moment, he laughed, he cried, he felt better, for he realized it was the truth!
