Checking URL link integrity
Check Links is a tool built into Xaraya for ensuring the integrity of the links in URL fields. Any article that has a web address in Web Link field will be checked. Note, it does not check for links created inside text content itself, including the summary and body fields.
To begin,
Go to Check Links (Admin > Miscellaneous > Sitetools > Check Links)
1. Choose which set of links you want to check,
For example, if you want to check all the url's in a specific publication type, check all the boxes in that column and leave all the other boxes unchecked.
2. Click Find Links to collect the list of links in your search criteria.
3. Click Check Links to then check the status of each of the links in your selection set.
This may take some time. Clicking the "Refresh" link (or reloading the page) will show the status of the check, eg "160/241 links checked)
4. When the check is done the table shows the status code returned when the url was tested.
5. Click Show Broken Links Only. This will filter out the 200
6. Go through the list , update the url's that need fixing.
Note on some sites you might need to scroll horizontally to see all the columns, as some URL's are long and may stretch the Link column width.
7. To retest using the same search criteria, to check the results of your updates, repeat from step 3.
Status
-1: unknown (ignore)
0: not checked yet
200: ok
301: permanent redirect (fix these)
302: temporary redirect (leave these)
4xx ones are probably broken
5xx: may be a temporary server error (their server) unless the site doesnt exist any more
